"One More Time — He Is Not Done With You Yet"
HE OPENED HAGAR'S EYES TO WHAT WAS ALREADY THERE
— Genesis 21:19 (NIV)
Hagar was sitting in the desert watching her son die. She had placed him under a bush because she could not bear to watch. She was out of water, out of options, out of hope. And she wept. And God heard the boy crying — and He spoke to Hagar. And then He opened her eyes.
The well was already there. It was there before God spoke. It was there while she was weeping. It was there when she placed her son under the bush. The water that saved her son's life was within reach the entire time — but her eyes were closed to it. Grief, despair and exhaustion had narrowed her vision to only what was dying. God opened her eyes and the same desert that looked like a death sentence revealed a well. Your desert has a well in it. Ask God to open your eyes to it.
Father, open my eyes to the well that is already in my desert. I've been so focused on what is dying that I've missed what You've already provided. Show me the water. Amen.
In your most barren situation right now — ask God specifically: "What have You already provided here that I haven't been able to see?"
