HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUR KCSE E-CERTIFICATE
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced an online platform that allows candidates to generate and download their KCSE e-Certificates.
Whether you need your certificate for employment, college admission, or other official purposes, you can now access it online by following these steps.
STEP 1: CREATE A KNEC ACCOUNT
Begin by visiting the KNEC Certificate Portal and creating your account.
You'll be required to:
Click Sign Up / Register
Select Applicant (Student/Alumni)
Enter your full name and email address
Request a One-Time Password (OTP)
Enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your email to complete registration
STEP 2: LOG IN
After registration:
Click Login

Before generating your certificate, complete your profile by providing:
Citizenship
Full name (as it appears on your National ID)
Date of birth
Email address
Phone number
National ID number (for Kenyan citizens)
Profile photo (optional)
The system will automatically verify your identity through the Integrated Population Registration System (IPRS). This process normally takes only a few seconds.
STEP 4: GENERATE YOUR KCSE E-CERTIFICATE
From your dashboard, select Generate E-Certificate.
You'll need to provide:
Examination Index Number
Examination Type (KCSE or KCPE)
Examination Year (1989 to present)
Your personal details will automatically be filled from your profile.
STEP 5: VERIFICATION
Before your certificate can be generated, the system performs two automatic checks:
Identity verification through IPRS
Certificate verification using the KNEC database
Both checks must be successful before you can proceed to payment.
STEP 6: MAKE PAYMENT
Once verification is complete, you'll be redirected to eCitizen to make payment.
The charges indicated in the current user guide are:
Certificate Generation Fee – KSh 1,200
VAT – KSh 250
eCitizen Service Fee – KSh 200
Total Payable: KSh 1,450
Payment can be made using:
M-PESA (STK Push)
Other payment methods available on eCitizen
Payment confirmation is usually received within 10–30 seconds.
STEP 7: DOWNLOAD YOUR CERTIFICATE
After successful payment:
Click Download Certificate
Your certificate will open as a PDF document
The PDF includes a blockchain verification hash, allowing institutions to verify its authenticity.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Your downloaded e-Certificate remains available under My Certificates for six months from the date of issue.
After six months, the download option is disabled. If you need another downloadable copy, you'll be required to generate a new certificate and pay the applicable fee again.
Note: Support for KCPE and TVETA KNEC e-Certificates is expected to be introduced in the future.
