The 5 Documents Every Student Must Have Before Reporting to Campus
Reporting day is not the time to discover you are missing something.
Students have been turned away at the gate. Students have delayed registration by weeks. Students have missed funding because a document was wrong or missing. All of it avoidable.
Here are the five documents you must have ready before you step onto that campus.
1. Original KCSE Certificate or Result Slip
Your actual certificate from KNEC. Not a photocopy. Not a screenshot of your results. The original. If your certificate has not been released yet, carry your official result slip. Some institutions accept it as a temporary substitute but confirm with your specific institution first.
2. National ID or Birth Certificate
If you are 18 and above, carry your original national ID. If you are below 18, carry your birth certificate. This is your primary identification document for registration, funding access, and all official processes.
3. KUCCPS Admission Letter
Printed. Not just on your phone. Many institutions require a physical copy for registration. Print it at a cyber café before you travel. BCH can help with this.
4. KRA PIN Certificate
Your KRA Personal Identification Number certificate. Printed. This is required for the HEF funding application and for various financial processes at the institution. If you do not have one yet, get it before reporting day. It takes less than an hour to apply online.
5. HELB Application Confirmation
Proof that you applied for funding through hef.co.ke. A screenshot or printed confirmation of your submitted application. This tells the institution you have initiated the funding process.
Bonus — Passport Photos
Carry at least 10 recent passport photos. You will use them for ID cards, library registration, hostel applications, and more. Bring more than you think you need.
Missing one of these on reporting day does not mean you go home. But it means delays, queues, and stress that were completely avoidable.
